The recent floods in Queensland drew a remarkable response from around the country. People responded to calls for donations almost immediately, and then came the volunteers.

And now in Victoria others are helping those affected deal with the flooding there.

But why do people feel inspired to get up and `lend a hand脗麓 in times like these? Do disasters spark a special response? Did you help out with the flood clean up - and if so why?
