Lyrics:

She's running right now
Aching in her bones
With a plastic bag holding everything she owns
Running through the night
Through the desert breeze
Running through the dust and almond trees
She's the gal been scrubbing your floor
Picking your fruit 'til her arms are sore
But now you kick her out your big front door
You sent the sheriff and the marshal and the deputy
So she's running through the night just trying to stay free
She's just trying to stay free
Ain't nowhere she can rest her head
The rocks in the ditch gon' be her bed
She's running through the night
In the onion fields
Running from the folks with the guns and shields
She's the gal been scrubbing your floor
Picking your fruit 'til her arms are sore
But now you kick her out your big front door
You sent the sheriff and the marshal and the deputy
So she's running through the night just trying to stay free
She's just trying to stay free
But she ain't just running from the deputy
She ain't just running from the ICE
She's running 'cause people like you and me
Didn't lift a hand to keep her free
And I heard she met Jesus on the road last night
Asked where to rest 'til the morning light
Jesus said to her, "I wish I knew
They kicked me out too"
She's the gal been scrubbing your floor
Picking your fruit 'til her arms are sore
But now you kick her out your big front door
You sent the sheriff and the marshal and the deputy
So she's running through the night just trying to stay free
She's just trying to stay free
And if you see her tonight, don't say a word
'Bout where she's going or what you've heard
'Cause you've just seen
Madonna of the San Joaquin
Madonna of the San Joaquin

She's the gal been scrubbing your floor
Picking your fruit 'til her arms are sore
But now you kick her out your big front door
And if you see her tonight, don't say a word
'Bout where she's going or what you've heard
'Cause you've just seen
Madonna of the San Joaquin
Madonna of the San Joaquin
Madonna of the San Joaquin
