Lyrics:
I came up with this line and actually sung it badly to Fahim, who's
The singer here, who's actually worked with both of us on "Zero
Degrees." And he's got such a great tone in his voice. He's got an
Amazing grainy sound that I've only really heard in people like
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. He's got a really lived-in voice. And I really
Liked the idea of, I mean for me, the track actually, I mean it works
Very well in the context of Akram's piece, but it also for me sums up
How I feel about the morning, just waking up, and the concept of
Daybreaking and attacking the day. You know, the first thing I like
To do when I get up is go for a run or, you know, do something
Physical. And it really gets across that sense of hope and optimism
That I feel waking up first thing in the morning in London
Because I just think the day's for the possibility. And, I mean
Again it goes back to the track that I did with Imogen Heap that
Anything's possible at the beginning of the day. And I think that's
Really something that I feel there's something quite quirky about
It as well. You wake up with a smile and a sense of humour
I remember when I was in India there was the laughing yoga people
Who start the day actually laughing together. And I tried to join in
And I realised how difficult it is because we're so stiff in the
West. And it's quite difficult just to let go. And I remember
Talking to them and they just said, "Well, if you start the day with
A laugh, you know, the rest of the day goes really well." It really
Reminded me of that, you know, that idea. So "Daybreak" for me is
Actually about waking up and feeling good about how the day's going
To work out. There's a real feeling of optimism in the drawing too
The combination of birdsong and light streaming through the window
It's just almost like, you know, waking is coming into consciousness
But consciousness is light. When we're asleep, when we close our
Eyes, we are somewhere that the world, the world that we see, is not
And it is dark. And it is contained by the body, but it isn't the
Same shape as the body, but it's the world of darkness. And we
It's almost like the rising of light is a call to become conscious
