For one of Frank Zappa's Synclavier compositions, 'G-Spot Tornado' is different. Its fast pace, steady pulse, repetitive melody, and mad contrapuntal interplays make it a lot more song-oriented and exhilarating than anything else on the 1986 album Jazz From Hell. Therefore it comes as no surprise it eventually became a classic piece. Its outrageous bombast defied the computer's usually cold rendition and screamed for live arrangements. Ensemble Modern requested it for the Yellow Shark concerts and managed to re-create the level of energy found in the original recording. The same does not apply to Ensemble Ambrosius' arrangement for Baroque instruments. Taken too slow, it wallops instead of jumps. 'G-Spot Tornado' was a necessary inclusion on the 'serious' music collection Strictly Genteel. It represents the closest Zappa came in the '80s to the naïveté of 'Uncle Meat.'
