Lyrics:
I am travelling on a train Back in my homeland once again Though it’s not quite as I recall Half-remembered if at all I’ll cross the border fixed between Reality and dream And offer up this dedication To my imagined nation
So pour me a drink Let me leave my cares behind Allow me to paint A picture in my mind In my mind
When I was young My mother told me all about Her cousins, neighbours, uncles And my aunts Augusts gathered for the dance Jigs, reels, polkas, sets of four Sawdust leaping off the floor Life it was a celebration In mothers own imagined nation
So pour me a drink Let me leave my cares behind Allow me to paint This picture in my mind
Of rolling awake In dreams from hill yo hill The skys half-done with weeking Though we hear her old cry still A wild, ravaging, scared, ungovernable sea My own imagined nation Is coming back to me
Now these books and films Will tell you of the starving and the poor And the laundries where they sent Girls of her kind to repent Sure that was long before This sleeping cat would dare to roar Everybody knew their station In gods own imagined nation
So pour me a drink Let me leave my cares behind Allow me to paint This picture in my mind
Of rolling awake In dreams from hill to hill The sky’s half-done with weeping Though we hear her old cry still A wild, ravaged, scared, ungovernable sea My own imagined nation is coming back To me, back to me.
