Song Review by Franηois Couture
Opening on a round double bass line, 'Little Umbrellas,' a delicate medium-tempo instrumental piece by Frank Zappa, failed to make a lasting impression. Released on the 1969 LP Hot Rats, it was eclipsed by stronger pieces like 'Peaches en Regalia' and 'Willie the Pimp.' Nicely arranged with piano, clarinet, and even a recorder part, it has a naοve quality to it that will be better expressed in 'Twenty Small Cigars' on the album Chunga's Revenge. 'Little Umbrellas' was released as the B-side to the 1970 Bizarre single of 'Peaches en Regalia.' It seems it was never performed live and was put to rest immediately after its inclusion on Hot Rats.
